Though I never understood the point of calling the Beatles inspired characters names like Dirk and Stig and Barry Wom there's no denying that the Rutles came along at the right time to keep the Beatles legend afloat.
The songs with their witty titles like Doubleback Alley and Ouch!-which is now the name of a tribute band-added more fodder to the Canon.Most of these songs SOUNDED like Lennon & McCartney ones for the simple reason that the blueprint they provided lent plenty of scope to alter a few notes and create a new song
