Doing it his way

Jack Nitszche-pronounced NIT-SKI-was the right hand man of Phil Spector and behind some pretty imaginative arrangements.
Unfortunately his take on the Beatles is not one of them.
The whole thing sounds too rushed and the arrangements are more James Last than Phil Spector.
Not as Spector arranged anything unless it was to fire somebody.
However what can't be denied here is the fact that Nitszche who rarely recorded anyone else's music did these covers of Beatles songs for the love of it rather than a way of making a quick buck.
He adds a couple of his own instrumentals here which are no more than rewrites of Beatles melodies with a touch of his own song Needles & Pins thrown in.
You can tell by the titles that this was made at a time the Beatles only had 2 albums out on Capitiol.
Jack Nitzsche had already had an album out plus a hit single THE LONELY SURFER in 1963 so was at least a known name in America. In the U K no one knew who he was until the collectors market began to open up in the 70s
Nitszche was the real talent behind Phil Spector
