The Beatles as seen by Phil Spector

Phil Spector was the arch opportunist if nothing else and claims to his "genius" are grossly exaggerated. He entered the music business by copying the idea behind the hit single of "You" by the Aquatones, the first white doowoppers with a girl lead.Phil came up with the Teddy Bears and had a bigger hit than the Aquatones who were already in the One Hit Wonder Club.
The song "To know him is to love him" was his ticket to riches and fame and after reading the 3 books about his oddball career since you come to the conclusion that he owes his entire success to Carol Connors, the girl who sang on the hit and who was to become one of the most famous media personalities in America long before he ended up on a charge of suspected murder! (Carol made a number of singles after the Teddy Bears and had some success as a songwriter)
The Beatles actually covered this Spector song in their pre fame days and by 1970 had rescued the flagging career of the producer when he was not only commissioned to sort out the tapes which became the Let It Be album but was retained to produce albums for both George Harrison and John Lennon including the first John & Yoko one and the Bangla Desh concert. And once again a chart force after producing the John & Yoko hit "Happy Xmas War is over"
In 1974 Spector was his producer of choice for an album of rock'n'roll standards but by this time Spector had lost the plot and Lennon himself salvaged the remains of what was supposedly a shambolic session to issue what was the last album before Double Fantasy.
In 1963 Spector saw the Beatles as a threat and went to England to check out what was happenning there, eventually recording with the Stones.
Spector soon learned by 1964 that the British Invasion was not just a 5 minute thing-America has looked ever since to the U K.He would even see that Teddy Bears hit charting again for Peter & Gordon
