How they did it

In what has to be seen as at least unique is the fact that the Beatles cut the original version of HOW DO YOU DO IT-a song by a Tin Pan Alley writer which they didn't really want to do-they wanted to do their own songs or songs they chose to cover.
In order to get a first single out LOVE ME DO was issued after George Martin relented to their wishes and passed the song on later to Gerry & the Pacemakers.
Whether it would have achieved the same results for the Beatles as for Gerry-who topped the charts-is a moot point,
The Beatles own version was given official release on the Anthology-as high school pop its not bad seeing as its also unproduced.
The song was covered in the States by Dick & Dee Dee
