Ever since he was named before Ringo began With a little help from my friends-which i a sense makes him the first Billy Shears-fans have had a field day especially after the big Hoax of 1969 when the Beatles novelty started up again and there was actually an artist who named himself Billy Shears.
Meanwhile there were enough nutters to actually believe that what was a hoax had actually happenned-that McCartney had perished in a car crash and it was a cover up!
So a lookalike called William Campbell became the new Paul McCartney and a book was published about Billy Shears to verify his existence!
Today there's at least 2 books ABOUT the Hoax-which explain it was just that.There's websites which are either for or against-so called proof that McCartney WAS replaced and with "dissolving heads" to prove it!
Have these people nothing better to do? I mean Liverpool had a group called Billy Pepper and the Pepperpots (who were years before Sgt Pepper)who cut an album of covers-an expoitation album issued in the States as the Beats.Whats's known now about it is that it was created by MD Bill Shepherd-whose name is not that far off Shears-enough for the theorists to figure HE was Billy Shears because shepherds look after sheep who are sheared!
It just got nuttier until one day a 60s revivalist appeared called Billy Shears.He has a website and you buy from him.
